Hypnosis has
been used for thousands of years in many societies - the Americas, Africa,
Europe, Asia, Scandinavia, the East.
Famous
medico-scientists have practised Hypnotherapy. These include
Anton Mesmer, Jean Charcot, Ivan Pavlov, Sigmund Freud, Milton Erickson and
(Australia’s) Sydney Van Pelt.
Nowadays,
Clinical Hypnotherapy is a profession in its own right. And
health professionals are increasingly becoming aware of the efficacy of using
therapy while the subject is in the Hypnotic state.

Hypnosis
is a state we enter every day - when we daydream, when we forget much of the
drive from home to the shops, when we “go to sleep” in the train and “wake
up” just before our station, and when mum kisses better 5 year-old Jason’s
sore wrist.
In
Hypnosis our brains become active in a unique way. This has
been shown by scanning brains of subjects in Hypnosis, using Positron Emission
Tomography (PET) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
Medical
scientists now know that the more important areas “activated” are known to
highly influence our attention, focus, emotions, motivation, ability to reduce
pain (both physical and emotional), planning, willpower, “inner-monitoring”,
reality.
Hypnosis
almost always permits us to experience a state of pleasant
and deep relaxation, such that stress, anxiety and problems become far less
important, or even irrelevant. The “feel good” aspects
may be caused by production of Dopamine which research has shown to increase in
Hypnosis.

It
is simply Therapy which is undertaken in the Hypnotic state.
Hypnotherapy
works and is so successful because those parts of our brain, detailed
in
WHAT
IS HYPNOSIS become active in the Hypnotic state and those skills,
capabilities, resources and awareness we all have within us become available
and may allow for our desired change, whether it is to overcome or remove a
problem, or to do things better.
In
Hypnosis we become more relaxed and focussed, more motivated, more in control,
more able to “tune in” to our own thoughts, more likely to be aware of
causes of our unwanted behaviours, more able to deal with pain and other
unwanted things. And we may accept (or reject) suggestions.

WHAT
ABOUT THE MYTHS SURROUNDING HYPNOSIS?
MYTH 1 You
are in the control of the Hypnotist.
MYTH 2
You won’t remember anything.
MYTH 3 You
will not be conscious and not have your own
thoughts.
MYTH 4
You will be made to 'cluck like a chicken'!!
These are all fairy
tales!! You would not
say or do anything you don't want to when you are in hypnosis. I
will explain why and dispel any of your fears.

I am one of the
graduates of Australia’s premier school of Hypnotherapy - the Academy of
Applied Hypnosis at Lindfield.
The
Academy, as well as being a Registered Training Organisation, was Australia’s
first school of Hypnotherapy to receive government accreditation of its
professional courses.

The first
session is 1.5 hours long, cost $145 and consists of discussion of your problem and
background information. There is also time for you to ask questions about
Hypnosis and how Hypnotherapy will help. During this session you will experience
Hypnosis.
The second and
subsequent sessions are more intense, last for 1 hour and cost $99. I will confirm your
problem or check on how things have changed for you since the last visit. The
bulk of the session is taken up by the Hypnotherapy itself.
